a wander through central park

IMG_9986

when i was in new york last month i decided to take a basically aimless jaunt around central park.  as i walked through that infamous place and checked out how people used the space, i realized the absolute necessity for plants and flowers and green and, i guess, nature in an urban setting.  and, in particular, the significance of central park in that big, wonderful, high-energy center of the universe that is manhattan.  i came across a map while i was walking around, and saw an area called the conservatory garden, which sounded interesting, so i thought that i'd make the somewhat long trek to the north end of the park to check it out.  and i was glad that i did - it's really a little gem in that great park.  all manicured hedges and pretty blooms and a true oasis amongst the hustle and bustle.  i had planned to stop into the guggenheim after.  but, by the time i got back there, honestly, i was sort of too tired and, after pretty much walking the length of the park and back, my feet hurt and i decided to skip it and take a cab back to my hotel.  but the fatigue and sore feet were worth it, it was a really lovely respite from the go-go-go'ness of the rest of my trip.

honor system flower stands

IMG_9477

when i was in cape cod last month i came across a couple of sweet looking flower stands as we were on our way somewhere.  when i had a chance i went back to check them out.  it turned out that the stands were set up by a place called in the weeds flowerfarm and that they were on the honor system!  i thought that this was such a lovely idea and sort of exemplified the charming and honest attitude of the area.  they had a little book where you wrote down what you took and how much money you put in their little box.  oh yeah, and there were fresh eggs too.  i just loved the whole thing...so great.  obviously i had to pick up a few arrangements to bring back to the beach house.

cape cod: our little beach house

cape house

we were in cape cod, a couple of weeks ago, for a family vacation.  this is the second year that we've rented a sweet little beach house with some dear friends and it was such a nice time, once again. the little house (named "oscar's viewpoint") that we rent is sort of the epitome of quaint and charming and the surrounding area is all adorable shingled houses and big fluffy blue hydrangeas - over the top cuteness.  the little private beach that the house backs up to is so quiet and relaxing and the tide goes out like a mile, twice a day.  when the tide is out you can spend forever discovering awesome little sea creatures, shells, etc., which pretty much makes for kid (and adult!) heaven.
